Shir Madness and Joy

Shir is the Hebrew word for song and our music this week includes a variety of popular song, Jewish and otherwise, from traditional klezmer to Chassidic hip hop, blues, rock and reggae. Starting with the joyous sounds of Fay Sussman and The Klezmer Connection, we hear a gyspy-inspired folksong from Nadya Giga and Their 101 Candles Orkestra. Then there's the new generation of artists like Sunshine Coast folk-singer Ange Takats, Sydney's FourPlay String Quartet and from New York, the Chassidic reggae star Matisyahu. Not forgetting the classically-trained xylophone player, Alex Jacobowitz, an orthodox New York Jew now living in Germany.  Read Transcript
